Even for Christians, it can be embarrassing to talk about the differences between men and women. Why? Because when it comes to dating and marriage, we think those differences separate us. But that’s not true! Those differences don’t make marriage harder. They are what makes marriage easier – even when life is hard!

Those amazing gender differences are also what allows you and your partner to raise strong children who will respect their mom and dad as they grow up to build their own adult life, one that makes them happy – and their parents proud of them.

The reason this seminar can bless your marriage before you have one is simple. The culture teaches about things that separate men and women. You need to learn what brings you together beyond physical attraction so that dating can become courting, and courting can become marriage. One big lie to avoid
Don’t believe that you must be super successful in order to get married and raise strong children. All you really need is to find a mate who understands this Biblical teaching and is willing to accept it as the way to have a good marriage. You don’t need to be rich. You just need to be wise enough to see the truth and live by it – just as Christians have lived for 2000 years – rich or poor.
Some background & things to consider
I gave this seminar in the Northwest, but it all started at a Christian college in New York City where I taught a “Dating, Courting, Marrying, Parenting” seminar to Christian singles in their 20s and 30s. Teaching is not new to me, especially as a longtime Christian talk show host, but I also used to teach high school.
When I speak to young people, no matter what the age, I often start by saying, “You don’t know how powerful you are.” It’s true. Because there are so many things that get in the way of our realizing the joyful power of our youth, which is full of energy and expectation and dynamic potential. Your youth alone has a lot to do with the natural attraction between two people who are looking for a mate. Because it is young people who are best designed to have the children they want.
I know sometimes it’s hard to imagine that you’ll meet someone to marry. The reason is that most of us tend to underestimate ourselves. This is especially true when it comes to dating and marriage. Think of the people you know who don’t fully appreciate themselves. Think how disbelieving they are when you try to praise or encourage them. There are millions of us – I was certainly one such person as you’ll see on the video. Now think how wrong you know they are about themselves. One way or another, that is most of us. It’s hard to fully know yourself.
Of course, not one of us is perfect. But marriage is not about being perfect. It’s about the chemistry of two people – about how they are drawn to each other by a mysterious mix of what makes them who they are, the good and the less-than good. So don’t worry. The key is understanding how men and women can get along in marriage – despite some flaws – so their bond doesn’t break and so together, they can raise strong children. Yes, it starts with a spark of spiritual and physical connection, but it is God’s design for marriage and family that creates the true connection, the one that can last a lifetime.
